“Vege rama” Restaurant Review (Brisbane, Australia)

Vege Rama Restaurant Review, Brisbane Australia

Travelling all over the world can pose many challenges for vegans and would be vegans. While airlines are good at accommodating many dietary requirements, Long haul flights and travelling to countries not accustomed to veganism can still be daunting. Luckily, Australia is very familiar with the vegan lifestyle and the city of Brisbane is no exception. There are many vegan restaurants within and outside the downtown core. Also, many non vegans restaurants make a conscious effort to accommodate vegans… Which is greatly appreciated especially when dining with non-vegans or vegetarians.

The Experience

One of my favourite restaurants in Brisbane is Vege Rama. The main restaurant is located in South west Brisbane on Melbourne St. with three smaller takeout locations within the city. The main restaurant is quite comfortable with a nice size dinning room and a relaxed atmosphere. The regular menu has a broad variety of drinks and dishes. From tonics, fresh juices and smoothies all the way to comfort foods such as pizza, black bean burgers and cannellonis. If you are looking for something with a little more flair and spices there are nice curries and flavourful soups and you can even finish off the evening with decadent desserts. There is basically something for every taste and mood.

A great thing about the main location is their rotating list of specials (usually not found on the main menu). I started with the fresh turmeric tonic, followed with the Calzone stuffed with vegan cheese, spinach and kalamatas served with a small side salad. The crust was perfect, nice and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The tomato sauce was simple but spiced to perfection. The rest of the ingredients were tasty and fresh and the attentiveness of the staff most welcomed.

I’ve been at this location before and I must say I’ve never been disappointed. I will certainly be going back on my next Australian trip.

You should have a look at the restaurant’s website before your first visit, it is quite nice!

If we’ve made you hungry with all these talks of Calzones you should have a look at our Vegan Calzones recipe it is really good and very easy to make.
